Anjali is currently in her second year at Rajasthan University Jaipur pursuing a B.S.C. in biotechnology.
She plans to do environmental research in the future. Her goal is to reach Antarctica one day to observe environmental changes happening there.
Global warming has been dealt with on global level. But when do these problems become global? They are the result of the problems occurring in different countries in the world.
New Delhi is one of the most polluted, urbanised , industralised and populated states in India. Pitam Pura is a known colony of Delhi which consists of posh colonies and small villages. Not a single home in Pitam Pura has water purifiers because the streams and piping systems through which the water flows are in a very poor condition.
Some of the major environmental issues in Pitam Pura are waste disposal and its management, air pollution, global warming and water pollution. It is not infreuqent to see small streams in Delhi containing of a large amount of waste. It is common for people to use this water to to wash. The water near the industrial areas are in an even worse state. Some steps are taken to tackle these problems, for instance attempts are being made by the local bodies to make the general public aware about these problems by putting up posters, creating audio visuals and running campaigns to raise the awareness for these environmental issues. But the most important thing is to make people care, espescially the youth. College students studying environmental sciences or with an interest in the climate could start up their own projects focussing on different environmental problems and with their creative ability and knowledge could discover new measures to control such issues.
It's never too late for us to wake up. India should start considering environmental changes as a serious issue and act now.
