Ankit is in the third year of his studies. His hobbies are table tennis and skating.
He plans to specialize in the field of biotechnology so he can educate more people about the effects of climate change.
21st century technological advances have made it possible to make even the most daring of human fantasies become reality. But it has come at a cost. With ever increasing pollution and deforestation wild life is threatened. Trees are a rare sight and farming has come to an end due to lack of farmland. Climate change has been a major cause of concern for over a decade. We have yet to understand the adverse effects of climate change. Since climate change is man-made, as human beings we are solely responsible for the ecological imbalance on our planet. Climate change has a tremendous impact on plant and animal life. The major cause of climate change is pollution and global warming. Pollution is the discharge of toxic gas into the atmosphere, some of the sources being the car sector, petroleum and other chemical Industries or the burning of plastic. All these things are altering the ecological balance. Global warming is due to the accumulation of green house gases like carbon- dioxide or sulphur -dioxide.
Pollution causes the depletion of the ozone layer and respiratory and skin diseases. Global warming results in the melting of ice caps and rise in sea level. Global warming also increases the planet's surface temperature.
My life, family and community have been largely affected by climate change, as it brings unexpected torrential rains in the city causing fever, cough and cold. The temperature of the city has been surprisingly high and at the same time there has been a rise in the sea level. The city's weather forecasts are unpredictable - often there is heavy rainfall for 15 minutes followed by bright sunshine. The waste from the industrial plants are directly being discharged into the rivers, thus polluting the drinking water and affecting aquatic life. Deforestation is again a major cause of climate change. Also, plastic bags and covers are still being used in the city and are burnt once they're discarded. Cows eat garbage including plastic, which badly affects the milk. Rivers and lakes are polluted as well and a large area is covered with brackish water emitting a foul smell. Acute food shortage has set in and starvation is killing more people than any other dangerous disease.
Cimate change is man-made, and we human beings are responsible. Governments can take measures but as citizens we should take steps ourselves and help protect our world before it is too late. "A small initiative can make a big difference". Let's join the green revolution for a cleaner, better and eco-friendly tomorrow.
