There are many different environmental problems in Kuwait. During the gulf war approximately 400 million gallons of oil were released into the Persian Gulf, as a result of which half a ton of toxic gases were emitted into the atmosphere and killed birds and also the fish that are the main food resource for most of Kuwait families. This could cause a serious problem since the oil fires spread acid rain and oil seeping through the desert sand into the ground water polluted the underground water reserves. This has caused health problems for many people who are dependent on these water reserves.
Another issue our community has to tackle is the reduction of agricultural productivity. Kuwait has become more and more interested in industrialization in order to enhance their economy. This could lead to serious problems with respect to industrial waste, including chemicals and dangerous gases. Some factories are located in residential areas. So children may be injured or affected by these chemicals and poisonous products. We need to work together in our communities to raise the awarness for these issues and to create a healthier environment for ourselves and our children.
