    Godwin Besigye, 21 years
    Kampala, Uganda

Godwin is from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda and lives in an area called Kyaliwajjala,  where he carried out his research.

    • Kirunda spring: This the second spring in the area
    • Development of real estate in the area and agriculture are a set back
    • This man has to ferry water uphill. This is the safest water spring the area.
    • One of the residents who explained his ordeal to me
    • Kimbejja spring:serves many people in the areas but the construction of houses is affceting its levels.
    • There used to be a well in this place.
    • A close up of the kirunda mbata spring.
    • The spring in Kirunda-Mbata area.
    • This is the 3rd spring in the area with moderately clean water.

The area shown in the photos is located in Kyaliwajjala, which is in the Wakiso District in Uganda. Before, the area had a rich natural vegetation, wetlands and the relief of the area is hilly.

In my research, I focussed on the effects of climate change on the availability of water in the area. Kyaliwajjala has 3 springs, which provide water for residents who do not have access to piped water. However, due to the high rate of development of real estate and clearing of land for agriculture, there has been a severe impact on lives, livelihoods and the human rights of the residents.

The water has lost its purity and people are prone to water borne diseases. Moreover, people are having to cover long distances to fetch water.
