There are many environmental and health problems today namely water pollution, air pollution or food pollution. But we can do something to help solve these problems.

Firstly, we face the problems of supplying pure water for drinking and household uses. In Senegal, for example, some get water from nearby lakes and rivers or wells. But we notice that sewage or household waste is dumped there. This pollutes the water and causes damage to the environment and eventually diseases. As water is indispensible for our living, we ought to save it and make a better use of it.

A lot of effort should also be made to stop air pollution. Why not drive a bicycle or walk, if we can, instead of riding a car all the time? To create a healthy environment, people can use and improve public transportation. Communities must work to have better ways of getting rid of garbage and trash instead of dumping or burning them.

In sum, it is necessary to sensitise people and talk to them. We can organize cleanup campaigns in our neighbourhoods, schools or recreation areas - anywhere that is needed. It's good to grow a plant or plant a tree, because green plants improve the air that we breathe. This is why we at our school we took part in the Environment Event planting trees, which was organised through Connecting Classrooms. I hope, as it is widely appreciated by our communities and local authorities, this will be followed by many other schools and Connecting Classrooms will not stop after 3 years' work. A healthy environment makes a wealthy world!
