He is one of many young people at the school who are actively engaged in raising awareness about climate change and championing an effective response.
In the last few years there have been great climatic changes in Argentina. Our region, like many others, is affected by falling river levels. The reduced
volume of water in the River Chimehuin is of poorer quality - carrying less oxygen - and greater turbidity. The number of fish is also declining, which has a negative impact on fishing and the economy in the region. There are now more periods of drought and more fires between summer and autumn. Flora and fauna are in retreat because of soil erosion.
The fires and the heat have also caused an increase in cardio-respiratory illnesses, which has had a negative effect on the health of society. While, in some parts of the country, the warmer climate has been causing droughts, in other parts there are now more frequent floods, caused by the melting of glaciers such as Lanin Volcano and Perito Moreno. Only if we are aware of these changes, can we take action to mitigate them and protect our environment. It is hoped that, if we take action now, our world can become what it once was.
