Congratulations Tran Dong Hai!

  • Portrait Tran Dong Hai

    Tran Dong Hai, 19 years
    Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Tran is a freshman at Pham Ngoc Thach medical University in Vietnam. He studied English since I was in high school and has travelled to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

He wants to become a doctor, to widen his knowledge, and to help people.

    • It is hard to find these things in my city. I took this picture when I was in a countryside.
    • There was a project to improve this place more than 10 years ago. Now it is still under-constructed. So many trashes and mud around. This place is near my house.
    • This is a small area around a tree on a small parterre on Thi Nghe bidge in Ho Chi Minh city.
    • In Vietnam, most of people use motorbike, so a lot of smoke is released into the air. (A street in Ho Chi Minh city)
    • Now the rain is lesser but heavier. After the rain, it looked like there was a flood on the street.
    • At a market in Ho Chi Minh city. It is quite crowded but it also leave a lot of trashes.
    • A dead creeper. These things can happen easily when it s more heat in the air. (I took this picture in my city)
    • A street after a rain. Belive it or not, you are seeing a street in a big city in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh city). It looks like you are riding motorbike on a stream.
    • Flowers on the street side. Everything will get to fall and get to die soon like this (I took this picture on a street in my city)
    • A dead tree. This is a near future, all trees are dead if people don't care about our climate. (This picture was taken at a countryside near my city)
    • Annoying faces. A couple of foreigner can not stand the heat of the sun when they are riding a motorbike on the street.( I took this picture on a street in Ho Chi Minh city)
    • It is going to die soon. This tree can collapse anytime. This is one of the consequences. (I took this picture when I was in Dalat-Vietnam)
    • Comforter everywhere. A lot of people have to wear comforter and jacket when they go out cause they want to protect themselves from the heat of the sun.
    • It's getting hotter and dustier. Even you are walking on the street, you will have to wear like this. Climate change affects all people, affects our life and it even can destroy our earth forever.

Economic growth is good. Development is good. But does it have to take place at the expense of the environment? Every day, as I walk around Ho Chi Minh City, I see motorbikes pouring fumes into the air. People enjoy driving around; they enjoy their lives.
But they do not think about the consequences of their actions for the environment. And yet, if they would only look, the evidence is all around them.

The weather is getting hotter and hotter, drier and drier, with each passing year. When it does finally rain, the streets become rivers.Sometimes I feel that I should be riding in a canoe rather than on a motorbike. People do not realise that they are ultimately destroying their own lives by their actions.
Unless humanity changes, we will all pay the price.
